Good Afternoon!
This week in 4k we learned all about the letter A and our five senses! We also started having classroom jobs! They will switch every week! On Monday we started off our week by distinguishing between hard and soft. We learned how to sort things into two piles and tell the difference between the two! We also were introduced to our letter A. We talked about what it looks like, the sound it makes, and how to write it. We used two cute saying to practice writing our uppercase (big) A and our lowercase (little) A. We used the terms uppercase, lowercase, big, and little to describe the letters throughout the week.
In gum this week we practice throwing and catching to a partner! They all did so well. We even had time to practice our kicking. They all did really well taking turns and staying in a line while we took turns kicking the ball back to Ms. Hietpas.
Zander had snack this week and he brought some pretty yummy treats for us this week! One day this week he brought pumpkin cookies for snack. To go along with our 5 senses week, I told Zander he couldn't tell his friends what the cookies were made of. At snack time, our friends used their sense of taste to tell me what our cookies tasted like! It was so fun to hear what they all thought the cookies tasted like! At the end of the snack time, I did tell them what the snacks were made of! :)
We used our sense of smell for an art project this week! My friends all used their glue bottle to trace their names. They then choose a flavor of jello they wanted to sprinkle on their name. It was a lot of fun watching the white jello turn the colors of our jello! Everyone's name smelt so good!
We started the first page of our ABC book this week! This week the turned our uppercase A into an Anthill and our lowercase a into an apple!
This week in the discovery center we had a tub of rice and we had to work to find our hidden letters within the rice! They loved finding the letters and telling me what letter they found!
Our All About Me classroom book is finally finished! It is in our reading corner and they love looking at it everyday! They all have to find their own page! I can tell they are proud of their work they put in! They also enjoy telling each other about their family pictures on the pages!
We are continuing to practice our cutting. This week we continued to work on knowing how to hold our scissors the correct way. We also learned how to walk with scissors in our hand! They are all doing a really great job practicing with scissors! We still have our cutting bin that we are continuing to practice on in centers.
Our listening and technology center is a big hit at center time! We have started checking students off when the use it during the week, to make sure no one is left out! They are loving playing on all the educational iPad apps we have on our iPad. I am not sure which one is their favorite yet! They have all figured out to listen to our books in the listening center this week as well! They love listening to me read the stories to them from the iPod. They also love listening to the beep, so they know when to turn the page.
To end our A week we all became A princesses and princes!! We spent some time on Wednesday coloring and cutting out our own crowns! We really enjoyed wearing them all day!
This week in the game center we learned how to set up and play memory. The ones who played did a fantastic job taking turns and knowing whether they got a match! We have so many pictures this week, I had to put them into a slideshow! Enjoy!
