This week we had a blast learning about dentists and our teeth. This week we learned about what a dentist does when he cleans our teeth. We got to practice being a dentist with our playdough dentist kit. They loved fixing the teeth and keeping the playdough teeth clean.

On Monday we played on the blacktop at school....we loved making snow angels and playing with the kickballs! On Monday we also practiced our one to one counting skills by rolling a dice and filling our "mouths" with teeth in our discovery center. In art on Monday we made these adorable teeth people! They all turned out so cute! We are very proud of them.

This week we worked on writing the letter S and its sound. On Tuesday we worked on our S is for snake craft. On Tuesday we were introduced to our new dramatic play center. It is currently a veterinarian office. We are loving that we get to take care of cats and dogs! On Tuesday we painted with a toothbrush! They all thought this was pretty funny! :)

This week our sensory bin was all about practicing our cutting skills. They worked on their cutting skills by cutting out books!

This week we got new foam blocks in our cars and blocks center. They are loving the shapes of these blocks! They are so creative and are enjoying building different buildings with them!

Due to our melting snow hills this week, it was finally safe for us to return to the playground! They are so excited to be back playing on the jungle gym, swinging, and going down the slides.

President's Day and the Letter R

This week we focused on the letter R and we talked about President's Day. This week we talked about what President's Day is, What a President does, and Who our President is. On Monday we did a fun writing project, where we talked about what we would do if we were President. We came up with some fun answers!

On Monday in our game center we learned how to play Go Fish. In this Go Fish game, we had to match the uppercase and lowercase letters. We all had a lot of fun learning this game. On Monday in our writing center, we used bendy sticks to form our letters. We really enjoyed this as well!

In our discovery center this week we used coins in our scale. We thought it was pretty fun to play with real money and see how heavy one side could get on our scale.

For gym this week we played with the parachute! We learned a new game called popcorn! We thought watching the balls fly around was a lot of fun! Lots of laughs in gym this week! Our favorite thing with the parachute is still the mushroom!

On Tuesday in our writing center we were introduced to file folder games. This week we are focusing on matching our uppercase and lowercase letters with our file folders.

With our letter R, we not only practiced our handwriting on how to correctly form our letters, but we also focused on the letter sound. This week we had to look at pictures of things and figure out what pictures started with the letter R sound. We are getting really good at listening to the sounds we hear when looking at a picture, or when we are trying to write a word.

This week our letter R craft was rainbow. We had to rip the colors and put them in order. We thought this was a fun project! We even put clouds and treasure at the end of our rainbows.

In our discovery center this week, we not only played with money and our scale, but we focused on our counting skills as well. We rolled two dice, counted the total dots we saw (introduction to adding) and found the number on our sheet, and colored it!

This week we talked a lot about what a friend is, and what it means to be a friend. Some answers we came up with are: Be nice, share, say I'm sorry, be kind, give friends space when they need it. We did a friendship activity where we had to try to stand up at the same time, without letting go of each others hands. This involved communication between the partners and coordination to stand up at the same time. We all had fun with this activity!

Groundhog's Day and Valentine's!

We have had a busy couple of weeks here in 4k! Last week we talked all about Groundhog's day and what it means for Phil to see his shadow. On Monday we made predictions about whether or not Phil would see his shadow. We learned that he did not see his shadow, later on in the week. We also learned about the letter P!

We have a lot of new centers for February in 4k! In our dramatic play center, we added a workbench. We are having fun fixing everything in the classroom! :) In our sensory bin we have a Valentine's theme! Lots of candy hearts and cookie cutters! In our block and car center we have been introduced to superheros. We have been having a lot of fun with them!

In our writing center we have gained a pocket chart. The pocket chart is going to be used for our letter games we have throughout the year. This way, it will be easy to see which letters we have found, and the pieces do not get mixed around with other games. We have been really enjoying the pocket chart. This month we are matching our uppercase and lowercase letters together. This has been helping us to recognize our letters!

Last week for School Spirit Week, we not only participated in fun dress up days, but we also participated in a fun craft as well! For School Spirit Week, we made our very own clay creations using cookie cutters and fun decorating tools. They are going to be fired and then we will get to have them back to paint! Once they are all complete, we will get to bring them home! We are all looking forward to being able to paint them.

For Valentine's week one thing we worked hard on is writing about things we love. This writing activity was a little challenge to see how we hear our letter sounds. For this activity, everyone had to sound out the words they wanted to write, and then write the letters they heard. This was a great activity to see what letter sounds we know, and which letter sounds we still need to work on. We are all very proud of how our writing samples turned out, they are hanging on our lockers for everyone to read. I cannot wait for them to come home, so that you can see how awesome your child did!

For buddies this month we made love monsters! We worked with our buddies to glue our monsters and then color them as well! They are proudly being displayed in the cafeteria for the St. Edward Fish Frys! They all turned out wonderful!

This week we learned the letter Q! We also learned that Qu are typically always seen together, which is why we learned the Qu sound this week. One fun letter activity we enjoyed this week is cutting out lowercase and uppercase letters and matching them to where they needed to go. This activity helped us to recognize the differences, practice our cutting skills, and gluing skills as well.

We really enjoyed handing out our valentine's to our friends yesterday! Ms. Hietpas was so busy helping everyone, she forgot to hand out hers! Everyone will be getting my Valentine on Monday! :)
