Today our second week of 4k came to a close. We are rocking at our arrival procedures! Every morning we come in and we place our folder in the blue bin. Next, we check in by practicing tracing our names. After we have checked in, we go to our seat and we do our coloring sheet. We are all stars at this!! This week we talked all about ourselves! Today we talked about how to be good friends. To talk about how to be good friends in 4k, we did the "Crinkled Heart" activity. We talked about what not nice friends looked like first. While we listed what a not nice friend looks like, we crinkled the paper heart. Some of our examples were: hitting, pushing, not listening, making others sad.
As we looked at the crinkled heart we talked about how having a heart that is wrinkled makes us sad. We then began to talk about how being a nice friend and listening to others helps to heal the wrinkles. As we listed examples of how to be nice we tried to straighten out the wrinkles. Some of our examples we came up with are: Saying "I Love You", sharing, listening, and hugging.
As we looked at our heart when we were finished, we noticed that all of our wrinkles were not out of our heart. I then told them that although nice things help our hearts to feel better, those not nice actions still affect our heart.
At the end of this activity, we all made promises to listen and be nice to others in class. To show their promise, each student placed a band-aid on the heart, because band-aids always make everything better. :)

Today we met our first and second grade buddies. We will meet with them once a month and do some fun activities. Today we learned our new buddies and drew a picture of them!
