This week we continued to learn all about spring in 4k! This week we talked about what is needed for a plant to grow. They all knew what three things were needed. Water, soil, and sun are needed to help a plant grow. We wrote those three words and colored pictures to go with them as well. Our handwriting is really coming along in 4k!
On Thursday in 4k we talked about why it rains and what makes it rain. We said that it rains to help us grow, to help plants grow, and to help animals grow. We then talked about what makes it rain. Our answer to this is "clouds crying". To learn "What makes it rain", we broke up into small groups and did a rainstorm in a cup experiment. For this experiment, the students had to put food coloring on their "cloud", until the color started to rain into their cup. As we did this experiment, we noticed that the cloud was filling up with lots of color (aka rain). We talked about how clouds fill up with rain and when the cloud gets to full, the rain as no where to go, but out of the cloud. We loved this! We thought it was really cool! We had a lot of fun with this activity and we all worked really well in a group together!
This week in gym we learned a new game. It was called "spring cleaning". The object of the game is to have our "house" (Side of the gym) cleaned or have less balls by the time the timer rings, then the other side. This game was a lot of fun! We not only burned some energy chasing balls around, but we learned the words less and more.
On Monday, as promised, we worked on our pillowcases! Our pillowcases turned out adorable! Our pillowcases will go home with us at graduation on May 19th! :)
This week in dramatic play we opened up our very own 4k bakery! We really enjoyed making our own cakes and being able to decorate our cakes with felt. We have been playing really well together in this center!
This week we talked all about the letter x! We learned the sound x makes and how to write it. Our letter x craft this week was "X is for xylophone". This project required us to cut different sizes of all of the colors to fit onto our x. We did a really good job of measuring out the colors, so that they would fit nicely onto our X.
In art this week we did a lot of spring activities. We made raindrops for our classroom windows, we watercolored rainbows, and we started working on Mother's Day.
This week we also went and spent some time with our first and second grade buddies .We did an Earth Day activity. We talked about ways we can help the Earth and we got to color our very own Earth.
On Thursday we started something NEW and EXCITING in 4k! We started our kindergarten readiness packets. When your child finishes an activity early, they know have two choices. They can either sit quietly in the book area and look at a book, or they can work on their kindergarten readiness packet. This packet contains work that deals with the alphabet. numbers, patterns, rhyming, beginning sounds, and number recognition. So far we are really enjoying this packet! :)
I hope everyone enjoys this nice spring weather we are having! I think it is finally time where we can put away our snowpants and boots. :)
