We are learning all about pumpkins this week and continuing to talk about the season fall. We have been working on our concepts of print (title, where do you start reading on a page, what direction do you read).
For art and writing on Monday we learned how to read "I Like Fall Leaves". We wrote the letter I on every page and colored the leaves the correct color. On Monday in discovery center we practiced our counting skills. The students matched the number of dots on the pumpkins, to the correct number.
Tuesday in morning meeting, we worked on our letter recognition. We have pumpkin puzzles in our classroom that have upper and lower case letters on them. We worked on finding a letter and matching it to its partner.
The school nurse came to talk to us on Tuesday. She talked about friendship and how we are good friends to each other. She read the book "Rainbow Fish" to us. We were excellent listeners for her!
In gym we continued to learn all about the parachute. We did a lot better Tuesday with the mushroom!! I was able to see everyone's happy smiles as we were sitting under it! We also pretended we were scuba divers and swam under the waves for treasure.
Tuesday in discovery center we got to play inside a real pumpkin! We first all had to guess how many pumpkin seeds were in our pumpkin. It turns out our pumpkin had 113 seeds in it! We all thought that was a lot.
In our dramatic play area this week we had our dress up clothes! We pretended we were dressing up to go trick-or-treating. In art on Tuesday we made handprint pumpkins! This week we also made a pumpkin seed counting book. We practiced reading the pages and drawing the number of pumpkin seeds needed for each page.
Today we read "The Five Little Pumpkins". We used our hands to count the pumpkins! After reading the poem, we did a "Five Little Pumpkins" craft. They practiced on cutting out the poem and the pumpkins. They also drew their own gate, and glued everything on their picture. They all turned out so cute, they are hanging in the hallway for everyone to enjoy.
Today for writing center we practiced writing our letters and our names with the chalk board. We enjoyed getting all full of chalk dust! In art center today we rolled a dice to count the number of seeds we needed to glue to our foam pumpkin. We counted the dots on our dice and then glued that many seeds to our pumpkin. We enjoyed this activity!!
